Leadership Thoughts

I was doing some thinking the other day. I know, I was thinking. Amazing. And I was thinking about something I read on another blog about things that hold back leaders and churches from growing.

One of the things I thought about was complacency. It is so easy for a leader to fall back on what they know and try to maintain the status quo. I have thoughts sometimes that creep up on me that say things like, "Wow, things are going great, keep on doing what your doing. Don't mess it up. Don't change it." I really, really want to see Riverstone Church become the church that God has intended us to be. We want to be a church for the unchurched. It is so easy to fall into churchianity and do things the way they have always been done.

I believe one way to avoid or conquer complacency is by reading books on leadership. Going to conferences and growing your leadership lid. Hanging out with or talking with guys who are doing what you are trying to do and doing it with excellence, inspiration and innovation. Visiting other churches that are knocking it out of the park to get ideas and inspiration. The greatest way is to pray and seek God and ask Him for wisdom and inspiration and creativity to lead in our current context.

Complacency will set in when we decide we can do it on our own and don't follow others examples. We must never try to do ministry alone. That is a prideful attitude and we all know "pride comes before a fall." We have the greatest message the world has ever heard or will ever hear and we must give it our greatest attitude, our greatest heart, our greatest strength, our greatest passion to see that everyone in our circle of influence hears the Good news. We should make it extremely difficult for people to go to hell. And that is what Riverstone Church is standing up to do. We want to make Claremont a hard place to go to hell from.
