Things I'm learning along the way (part 3)

Always Bring People Back To The Vision

It amazes me how quickly people forget about the vision of the church. I shared and shared with the launch team why we are doing what we are doing and they still seem to forget. I guess if you think your sharing the vision enough your not.

I remember hearing Andy Stanley say that "You have to share your vision at least once a month when you are preaching." People will forget. My team is dedicated to help see Riverstone Church become a force for good in Claremont. But I find them getting discouraged from time to time. That is when I begin to tell them why we are doing what we are doing. I always ask them, "Do you remember why we are doing this?" They say yes.

If people focus on programs rather than the mission they will get burnt out fast. As leaders we constantly have to bring people back to the why rather than the what. We have get up early every Sunday and unload a trailer, set everything up and then about an two hours later tear it all down again and load it back up. We can become "weary in well doing." But when we remember we are doing it so we can reach people who are far from God, it makes things easier.

The scripture says, "Where there is no vision the people cast off restraint." Prov. 29:15. Without bringing people back to the vision, reminding them, showing them, living out before them, they will turn from it. They will forget. They will burn out. They will turn away and leave. Just plain quit. I am learning along the way that whenever I sense someone is beginning to lose sight of the vision that I will always bring them back to why we are doing what we are doing.
