You Need To Have Big Faith
I remember sitting in the meeting I had with the district for approval to plant a church in Claremont and thinking I just can't wait to get going on this church plant. There were about 13 guys around a table looking at my wife and I asking us a bunch of questions. When I told them it was our goal to launch with 200 people in attendance they nearly laughed me out of the room because they didn't think I was serious. They said to me, "This is New England. No one has ever launched with 200 people."
I remember thinking, man, now more than ever I want to do this to just prove them wrong. "Go big or go home" was my mantra. Well, we launched and we didn't have 200 show up. As a matter of fact we didn't even have 100 show up. But I still believe with everything in me it is possible to do it.
I'm not disappointed about our showing. As a matter of fact I thank God for it. All these people who came to be a part of what we are doing and hearing God's Word, that's a good thing. We just got started and I believe we are going to continue to grow as the community becomes more aware of us.
With that being said, I still have big faith in what God can do through us. I still believe that God is going to do some amazing things in our town. It doesn't matter how big or small your church is, you need to have big faith. We serve a big God and He is known for doing big things.
Hebrews 11:1 says "Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see. This is what the ancients were commended for."
I knew we had to shoot for the moon with this church plant. I still feel it in my bones that something amazing is going to happen. I figured that if we shoot to launch with 200 at least we will get a bigger crowd than shooting to launch with 35. Aim for the moon, and if you miss, you hit the stars.
Anyway, the district believed in me, my family believed in me, my friends believed in me and here we are today. A brand new AG church exists in Claremont, NH. It's not "exactly" as I envisioned but it's pretty close.
I'm learning along the way that no matter what people tell you, what the numbers look like, what the circumstances look like, keep having big faith in God. Dare to do big things for Him.
