Goal Setting

One of the questions I get asked most is, "How do you expect to have 200 people show up to the launch service when you only have a few now?" My answer, "I don't".

When God first started speaking to me about planting a new Assemblies of God church in Claremont I began to dream about what could be. As I was praying I believe God dropped in my heart to try to launch with 200 people in attendance. So that has been our goal all along.

Now when you set a goal there has to be at least two major elements to it, especially in church planting. The first is practicality. If we expect to have 200 people show up to our launch service we need to have a space large enough to hold everyone. That is why we decided to secure the movie theater. It seats 225. And there is plenty of room for the kids. We will have room to grow.

The second major element is faith. There has to be a certain amount of faith to the goal. What I really mean is that although the goal is possible it can't be done without the help of God. Can we reach 200 people at launch? Absolutely. Can we do it on our own power? Absolutely not. We have faith that God is going to allow us to do this. We realized a while ago that there is no way we are ever going to get that done. So we need to pray and believe God is going to help us.

Now of course I can hear the questions, "What's with the numbers?" Why are you focusing on numbers? God doesn't care about those." I beg to differ.

Let me say this, If 100 people show up I will be ecstatic. If 75 people show up I will be just as happy. So although 200 is our goal, we have not failed if we get less. That being said, the numbers are important because those numbers represent souls. It is our desire to see people come into a living faith relationship with Jesus Christ. Numbers are important because they represent people.

Also, God is very interested in numbers. As a matter of fact there is a whole book in the Bible called: wait for it: NUMBERS. Not just the OT but in the NT too. In the book of Acts you can read about the numbers of people who got saved. All through the Bible people are being counted. God is very interested in numbers.

So we wait to see what God is going to do in less than five weeks time. Please pray for us as we set out on this new journey.
