Intro. to Prophecy continued

It is a call to repentance. So why is Jesus taking so long in coming back?

"The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentence." (2 Peter 3:9)

God's patience is not a license for carelessness. "But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up." (2 Peter 3:10)

It is an encouragement for holy living. Here is one of the greatest purposes of Bible prophecy. Men and women must be reminded that now is the day of salvation, that prophecy is being fulfilled, and they must not postpone their decision for Christ.

"Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness...Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness." (2 Peter 3:11, 13)

I Thess. 4:18 - "Wherefore comfort one another with these words."

Ok that is basically an intro to prophecy and over the next several posts I will deal with the Anti-Christ, the rapture, Danial's 70 sevens, and whatever else strikes my fancy. Or if you have something you want me to discuss let me know. So my next post will be tomorrow.
