Went to the conference at First Cathedral today. Tony Evans was the key note speaker and they had a bunch of breakout workshops. I went to the Impacting the Culture/changing the world and Logos software workshops. Bumped into a bunch of people I know and did some networking.
Tony Evans first session was about King David. He quoted Acts 13:36, "And David served his generation and died." His three points were:
1. He served the purpose of God
2. For the benefit of his generation
a. We were made for purpose
know your passion
know your abilities
know your experiences
know your opportunity
3. He fell asleep
A couple of thoughts for Impacting culture. God called Israel out of the nations to seperate her for God's purpose of bringing about the messiah. Part of that was they were to eat differently than the other nations which hindered fellowship with the rest of the world. But after the death and resurrection of Christ the church was commanded to "Go into all the world" and this was illustrated in the book of Acts when Peter had a vision of unclean animals and God said, "Kill and eat". Now they could eat and fellowship with the nations to spread the Gospel.
Ecclesiastes starts with meaningless, meaningless everything is meaningless under the sun. Basically what we do is meaningless and temporal in relationship to the world. But there are those things that we do for eternal purposes and nothing is meaningless under heaven.
I went to the Logos software workshop because I wanted to learn some new things about my Pastor's Library. I definitely learned things I didn't know and also began to covet the Scholar's Library. But I don't have that kind of money. All in all it was a great day and I look forward to going back next year.
