Here are some more thoughts. His topic in this session was about where ideas come from. He called it "Sacramental Imagination". Rob referenced Genesis 28:10 where it said, "Surely the Lord was in this place and I was not aware of it." The idea was that not only was Jacob physically sleeping but that there was a spiritual element of sleep to it. Only then did he wake up spiritually to see that God was at work in his life.
"We need to live with an awareness of God at work."
Then Rob went into 6 different arts for creating ideas for messages.
1. The art of tension
This is the idea of leaving a story or message unresolved
Luke 15
2. The art of elimination
What's the controlling idea?
What needs to be eliminated?
What's good but not absolutely necessary?
What is this in it's most pure, raw, unadulterated form?
3. The art of turning the edit button off
"Abandonment is central to creativity"
4. The art of expulsion
What do you have to get out of you or you will explode?
What is this thing in you about this that people have to hear?
5. The art of space
Meditating and reflecting
Going to a place of inspiration and rest
6. The art of risk
"Nothing is wasted in God's economy"
Whether people receive it or not speak it.
"We need to live with an awareness of God at work."
