Finals

It feels like finals week in college. We are trying to get a budget put together and approved for the year 2007. I am praying for fresh vision from God and trying to align the church toward spiritual growth. I am preaching on New Years topics and gearing up to begin teaching classes again. And we are preparing for our annual business meeting, voting on new trustees and a treasurer. I say all that for the simple reason of why I have not been posting much lately. Add to that, I have been sick for the past two weeks and that pretty much explains it. I am not complaining mind you, just explaining the way it is right now. This time of year always is the busiest for us.

But it is also the most exciting because I dream of what could be. Of those things I need to work on personally and corporately. God has given me a new direction and all I can do is pray and seek Him on how he wants me to go about it. I am hopeful for SCWC, and know that God has great things in store for this church this year. We have seen many new families coming to the church within the past couple of months. Some old ones have left and made room for new ones. Our attendance has been up and people are beginning to really grab hold of what we are about as a church. We have seen several salvations in the past couple of months and we did three baptisms and brought on new members. God is at work in our church.

I am calling our church to greater commitment this year. Three areas I want to focus on this year are the relational, spiritual and financial aspects of discipleship. Our church is friendly but a recent survery has revealed that we are not connecting with one another outside of the Sunday service. So we are going to work on small groups to help with this issue. Another seemingly seperate issue is the spiritual aspect. I say seemingly because the survey I did also revealed that most people are not reading their Bibles on a regular basis throughout the week. So our home groups will be Bible focused. And lastly, I want to focus on the financial aspect of discipleship because although our attendence is way up our offerings are way down. I want to teach on stewardship in the months to come. Ministry takes money. God uses the church to finance the ministry. Our church believes we need to be good stewards with our time, talent and treasure. So I am calling people to go deeper with these commitments this year.

Joe, One way we connect as a church family is doing things together that does not involve church like a Super Bowl party. It is a lot of fun, the pastor comes, we eat lots of food and watch the show. People come who don't even watch football just to hang out. It is a good time. Just an idea to help your church gel.

Yeah, Jack, tried that last year and one person showed and left half way through. I will try it again this year if the Pats are in the bowl. We also tried church picnics at the beach this year too and people decided to stay away. It is rather frustrating so we need a focused time and allow the groups to do the fun things together.
Wow, that is lame!
