Current Read

Simple Church is the current book among many that I am reading. It is pretty amazing how we as leaders can muck up the process of discipleship. I am really getting a new perspective on what it means to have a simple process for growing disciples. They offer a process of helping your church become simple through four ways:

Clarity: Starting with a ministry blueprint. Basically make plans and follow through on them. No one builds a house without first drawing up blueprints.

Movement: Removing congestion. Getting those things out of the way that is hindering the process of discipleship.

Alignement: Maximizing the energy of everyone

Focus: Saying no to almost everything. That is a cool concept in our please everyone world.

I encourage you, if you are a pastor/leader in a church or plan on planting a church read this book. It will really help you develop a simple process for making disciples.

Very, very good book. IMO, a must read for pastors.

Hey, you knew the author is Southern Baptist, right? Didn't think you could entertain any of our thoughts.

Actually you would be surprised how many Baptist theology books I have read and studied.

I loved the book as well. I think it was a great reminder for me about the need to simplify stuff here. I'm working on the alignment piece here at the moment - getting everything aligned around our mission statement, and making sure that it reflects a process, not just some words on a page. That's going to be a bit of a challenge, but I'm looking forward to it because I think it will make us much more effective.
