I read the other day that a church needs at least 1 acre for every 100 people. I guess that would be considered a growth barrier. We have about .64 of an acre. I have tried everything I could think of to remove growth barriers but it seems 65 is about the extent of our growth. It will hit 75-85 at certain times but that drops right back down the next week. I need to figure what our next move will be to encourage continual growth in our church. I believe every chair needs to be filled with a person because that is a soul loved by God. Some people say, "Numbers do not matter to God." But if they would just look at their Bibles there is a whole book in there by the title "Numbers". How about all the times numbers are listed in the Bible? Some say that numbers do not represent spiritual growth. I suppose that is true since thousands show up to football games that have nothing to do with God. Yet can a church that consistently loses people or stays the same for years also be a church that is considered to be growing spiritually? It seems to me that sharing ones faith, and leading people to Christ is part of spiritual growth, which means that more people will come into the church. Hence growth by numbers. Anyway, I am always looking for ways for our church to grow but I think a major barrier to our growth is our building.
