Walking By Faith

Sorry I haven't posted lately. A bunch of things are happening at the church. I got a phone call last Thursday by a pastor who works for Tommie Zito ministries. Needless to say I had no idea who he was or his ministry. But Friday morning I decided to call them back.

A short story long, I talked to Pastor Robert Smith on the phone and he explained to me what they were doing. They are based in South Beach, Fl. He told me he booked a ticket to come to CT on Saturday and I asked him what church he was going to. He said he didn't have one and I said you do now.

They like to go into the local church and teach and train people to share the Gospel through prayer-evangelism. It is a pretty amazing thing to watch. Hundreds of people a day are asking Christ to come into their hearts through this ministry. They will be bringing people from the church around town this week leading people to the Lord. If you are in the area you may want to stop in to the church and see what is going on. We are having services every night at 7 pm and training every morning at 10:30 am. Saturday will be a wrap up service at 10:30 am.

I booked these guys two days in advance having never heard of or met them. I NEVER do that. But I really sensed this was a divine appointment by God. I plan my messages out a year in advance. Once I do that I stick to it. But a few weeks back I called my worship leader and told him I was canceling the series I was going to do for March. I didn't know why but I did it. Then on Friday I was trying to put a message together for Sunday and I had nothing. I realized God wanted these guys to come in and share with our church. So far God is doing some neat things. I will keep you updated. Sorry for the long post.

Tommie Zito is a cross between fast-talking New York street hustler and southern huckster. He came to our church and it was clear to me that he desired to be worshipped, and paid. When our pastor brought up concerns about his tactics, he did not receive them, and in fact apparently cut off contact with our church ... after, of course, he took with him tens of thousands worth of offerings.

It is clear he has much zeal but less knowledge, and his tactics (at least in this observer's opionion) are borderline cultish. Schedule him at your own risk.

Thank you for your comments. Although I did not meet Tommie Zito personally the two guys that came to my church seemed passionate and zealous for the Lord. I cannot defend their tactics but have to say that between Christians who don't witness and their strategy, I would take their strategy. That being said I do not agree with everything they are doing and saying, and questioned the fruit from their coming to my church. But alas, your warning is a bit late. They came over a year ago. ;)
