Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the water

Oh man. I was at a special function today. That's about all the details I will give on it. Anyway, it is rather amazing to me that there are people who still think that it is a mortal sin to go to the movies much less use video clips in church. I love these people and have immense respect for them but the conversation went from "what kind of message are we sending" to your a sinner if you go to the movies. I really thought people would be over this kind of stuff by now. It seems there are those who will cling to the past even if it kills them.

It reminded me of the pharisees of Jesus' time. They created hundreds if not thousands of rules to keep people from getting anywhere near sinning. It's like setting up guard rails on the road to keep people from going off and then telling people they have to drive down the middle of the road doing 10 miles per hour in order to keep from falling off the edge of the road. It is overkill and not necessary.

It just amazes me how people will take something cultural and say that it is a sin. Drinking alcohol in some cultures is a way of life and not considered a sin at all but in the churches in America you could be cast out if you drink. If Jesus walked in the flesh today in America and was a pastor other pastors would be condemning him for the way he ministered to people. He would even be called liberal.

Man, I felt like I got ambushed today. You know the joy of jumping into a swimming pool on a hot day and cooling off. No worries right. Well how great would it be if the pool was filled with piranahs. That is how I felt today. Taken by surprise. Just when I thought it was safe to go back in the water.
