Commandments Explained

Ok, let's unpack what Ed Young was talking about with his 10.5 Commandments of Creativity.

1. Don't be creative for creatives sake. Do it to explain and enhance the message of the Gospel.

2. Speaking to the thirds is a reference to his idea of a healthy church which is made up of thirds. 1/3 baby Christians, 1/3 Mature Christians, and 1/3 hellbounders. Everything we do should have those three types of people in mind.

3. He has a saying at Fellowship, "It's the weekend, stupid". The idea is the Sunday service is the best place to give the ultimate presentation of the ultimate message. So everything the church does needs to point to the weekend.

4. The whole idea of the fade aways is we all need to take vacations and breaks. Ed explained when we are relaxed we get our best creative ideas. He calls that fade aways.

5. Team creativity is his passion and he gives credit to his team for most of their creative ideas at Fellowship and advocates preachers to develop teams like this.

Ok, I will end there. Next time I will finish up the last 5.5 Commandments of Creativity.

Hey Charlie. I agree with you on the over-emphasizing the weekend. I think we should be in the community having an impact. Not just be about ourselves. I'm sure Ed would agree. But I like the idea of getting people to thinking about the importance of the Sunday service. It's rather discouraging when as the pastor, you are the only one concerned about it.
