Commandments Explained Part 2

So here are the rest.

6. Ed's mantra is "If you have eyes plagarize". He said of course give credit where credit is due but take an idea and filter it through who you are and who your church is and make it yours. When you do that you make it better.

7. He talked about how much harder it is to be creative and the amount of energy it takes to do it. He said in order to be creative and effective you have to work hard at it. Laziness will get you no where. He shared with us sometimes to be creative means to sit back and just stare out the window.

8. Ed said that when you are predictable your communication effectiveness goes down because people know what's coming and tune you out. If they know what will happen every Sunday they will not be excited about coming. So he advocates changing things up to be creative. Even something as simple as moving a plant around on the platform.

9. This commandment means that after you have put everything in place that sometimes you will need to change something last minute. Don't be afraid to cut something if it is not working or doesn't really fit into the service.

10. It's as simple as this. You be You. Don't try to be someone else, it doesn't work. God made you to be you.

.5 - Ed calls this the ministers figures. Don't inflate the numbers in attendance, membership, baptisms, salvations, finances and etc.. Tell the truth.

Well there they are. If you have anything to add to these please do. I really enjoyed what Ed Young had to say and learned a lot about creativity and leadership. I hope these will help you as much as they helped me.
