Why do people do it? Why do people think they are God's answer man for the bible?
It is facinating to me how people pass themselves off as Bible experts and do not have one day of actual Biblical training. People who have never pastored a church one day or for even one hour have no problem telling pastors how to do their job.
It reminds me of my Marriage and Family class in college. The people with the most opinions about marriage were the single ones. I used to laugh at how foolish they sounded.
And then when a pastor tries to defend himself he is considered arrogant and unloving and whatever other label can be attached. But the person saying all these things would take great offense at a pastor for trying to tell them how to do their jobs. The standard answer is "Your a pastor not a _______." Fill in the blank. So obviously pastors can't tell people how to do their jobs but everyone is an expert on pastoring and biblical interpretation.
I love the phrase, "I've never been a pastor nor will I try but..." Oh man, I hear that one all the time. That's like saying, "I'm not trying to tell you what to do but do this."
It's like those guys who sit around watching football and saying how stupid or poor the quarterback is playing as if they could ever do what those guys are doing. It's sad really. Anyway, I'm just ranting. I feel a little better now. So if you know what a pastor is supposed to say and think and how they are to act, do me a favor, keep it to yourself.
